Penn Holiday Lights

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about professional holiday lighting installation.

Pricing & Process

Most residential projects range from $500 to $3,000+, depending on home size, roofline length, number of trees and bushes, and design complexity. The average home in Central PA typically falls between $800 and $1,800. Commercial projects are custom-quoted based on the scope of the installation. We provide free estimates so you know exactly what to expect.

Several factors influence pricing: the linear footage of your roofline, number of stories (2-story homes require more equipment and labor), number of trees and bushes to be wrapped or netted, whether you want wreaths, garland, or window outlines, and the overall design complexity. We provide a detailed quote at your free consultation.

Yes! We offer flexible payment options to make holiday lighting accessible. You can pay in full at the time of installation, or we can arrange a payment plan. We also offer a 10% early booking discount for customers who book before October 1st.

Our minimum project size is $350. This typically covers a basic roofline installation for a small to medium-sized home. Most customers find that once they see what's possible, they want to add a few extras to really make their home shine.

We provide a simple service agreement that outlines exactly what's included — the design plan, materials, installation date, maintenance terms, and removal schedule. There's no long-term commitment, though many of our customers become loyal returning clients year after year.

Absolutely not. Your quote includes everything: custom design, all lights and materials, professional installation, season-long maintenance (we fix any issues at no extra charge), removal after the holidays, and year-round storage. The price you see is the price you pay.

Yes! Returning customers enjoy preferred pricing, priority scheduling, and the convenience of having their lights already in storage and ready to go. Multi-year commercial contracts lock in pricing and guarantee consistent quality year after year.

Installation & Logistics

We strongly recommend booking by September or early October. Our calendar fills quickly and we can only serve a limited number of homes each season. Customers who book before October 1st receive a 10% early booking discount and get first choice of installation dates.

We begin installations in late October and continue through early December, weather permitting. Most residential installations take 2-6 hours depending on the project scope. We schedule your installation date during your consultation and always confirm a few days beforehand.

Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsafe for our crew (heavy rain, ice, high winds), we'll reschedule for the next available day. We always communicate any changes promptly and work hard to stay on schedule.

You don't need to be home! As long as we can access the exterior of your property and you've approved the design plan, our crew can complete the installation. We'll send you photos when we're done so you can see the result even before you get home.

A typical residential installation takes 2-4 hours for a standard home and 4-6 hours for larger or more elaborate designs. Commercial projects vary based on scope. We always provide a time estimate during your consultation.

We schedule removal during January, typically between January 2nd and January 31st. You choose your preferred removal window during booking. If you celebrate Three Kings Day or prefer lights up through mid-January, just let us know — we're flexible.

We carefully remove every light, organize and label everything, and pack it securely for year-round storage at our facility. When the next season arrives, we pull your inventory, inspect every strand, replace any damaged items, and bring everything ready to install.

Of course! If you see a neighbor's tree wrapping and want to add trees to your display, just give us a call. We'll schedule an add-on visit and update your invoice accordingly. Many customers start with roofline lighting and add elements each year.

Products & Quality

We exclusively use commercial-grade LED lights. These are the same lights used by professional decorators at shopping malls, theme parks, and luxury hotels. They're brighter, more durable, more energy-efficient, and rated to last 50,000+ hours — far superior to store-bought lights.

All LED. Modern commercial LED lights produce a beautiful warm glow that's virtually indistinguishable from traditional incandescent bulbs, while using 80-90% less energy. They also run cool to the touch, making them safer for your home and landscaping.

We offer C9 bulbs (the classic large Christmas bulb), C7 bulbs (medium-sized), and mini lights. We also have a wide selection of colors: warm white, cool white, multicolor, red, green, gold, blue, and purple. During your consultation, we'll help you choose the perfect combination for your home.

We provide everything. All lights, extension cords, clips, timers, wreaths, garland, light nets, and any other materials are included in your quote. You don't need to buy or provide anything.

The lights are included as part of our service package and remain the property of Penn Holiday Lights. This is what allows us to offer such competitive pricing — by maintaining and reusing professional-grade materials. If you'd prefer to purchase your own lights, we offer installation-only packages.

Professional commercial-grade lights are built with heavier gauge wire, larger LED diodes, UV-resistant lens covers, and reinforced sockets. They produce a richer, more even light, are rated for 50,000+ hours, and can handle the harsh Central PA winter weather without flickering, fading, or failing.

Maintenance & Guarantees

Just call or text us and we'll send a crew to fix it — at no additional charge. Season-long maintenance is included in every installation package. We want your home to look perfect from the first night to the last.

Absolutely. If you're not 100% happy with your installation, we'll make it right. We'll adjust the design, add lights, rearrange elements, or whatever it takes until you're thrilled with the result. Your satisfaction is our reputation.

Storm damage is covered under our season-long maintenance. If high winds, ice, or heavy snow damages any part of your installation, we'll repair or replace it at no extra cost. We monitor weather conditions and proactively check on our installations after severe storms.

Yes! Every installation includes a timer set to your preferences. Most customers choose dusk-to-midnight or dusk-to-dawn. We can also set up multiple timer programs if you want different schedules for weekdays and weekends.

We warranty all materials and workmanship for the entire display season. If anything fails, we fix or replace it free. For permanent lighting systems, we offer a 5-year warranty on parts and a 1-year warranty on labor.

Insurance & Safety

Yes. Penn Holiday Lights carries full general liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. This means if anything were to happen on your property — which is extremely rare — you're fully protected. We're happy to provide a certificate of insurance upon request.

Our professional installation is far safer than DIY. Our crew is trained in ladder safety and fall prevention, uses commercial-grade equipment, and follows strict safety protocols. We use non-damaging clips designed specifically for roofline installation — no nails, screws, or staples that could damage your roof or shingles.

No. We use specially designed clips that attach securely without penetrating or damaging your gutters, shingles, or roofing materials. Our installation methods are specifically designed to be non-invasive. We treat your property with the same care we'd treat our own homes.

Design & Customization

Absolutely! The design process is collaborative. You can share inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, or describe your vision, and our designers will create a custom plan. We also offer design suggestions based on your home's architecture and landscaping. The consultation and design are always free.

Yes! We can match specific color schemes, complement your home's exterior paint, or create designs that align with your personal aesthetic. Warm white for an elegant look, multicolor for a fun family vibe, or red and gold for classic Christmas — the choice is yours.

Yes, tree wrapping and bush netting are some of our most popular services. We can wrap individual trees from trunk to canopy, drape net lights over bushes and hedges, and create illuminated landscapes that transform your entire yard into a winter wonderland.

Yes! We install pre-lit wreaths on windows, doors, and gates, as well as lighted garland along railings, fences, mantels, and entryways. All wreaths and garland are commercial-grade and included in your service package.

Absolutely. From illuminated archways to custom light sculptures, we can create unique focal pieces that make your home truly one-of-a-kind. During your consultation, share your wildest ideas — we love creative challenges and will work with you to bring your vision to life within your budget.
